PDF Preventing Prescription Drug Misuse: Overview of Factors and Strategies
Building on past and current work at the state and local level, SAMHSA’s Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT) has developed two decision-support tools that highlight factors and strategies associated with non-medical use of prescription drugs (NMUPD). These include "Preventing Prescription Drug Misuse: Understanding Who is At Risk," which summarizes information from cross-sectional and longitudinal studies on factors that have been shown to either increase risk of or protect against NMUPD; and "Preventing Prescription Drug Misuse: Programs and Strategies," which provides brief summaries of substance abuse prevention strategies and associated programs that have been evaluated to determine their effects on NMUPD.
